A Natural Rock Feature in Derbyshire.

Peter’s Stone is a natural limestone rock reminiscent of St Peter’s Dome in the Vatican. Peter's Stone is located around 0.25 miles E of Litton, a village in the Peak District. Perched above the steep slopes of Cressbrook Dale there are spectacular views to and from Peter’s Stone dome.

An alternative name for this site, Gibbet Rock, derives from it being the location of the last public gibbeting in 1815. It is also known as Pulpit Rock due to it’s visual similarity.

Directions: Take the Cressbrook/Litton road off the A623 at SK 1759 7574. Park in the second lay-by at SK 1728 7542 after c. 0.33 miles. A path starts at a gate in the lay-by, leading down into Cressbrook Dale then steeply up to Peter’s Stone. Rock steps have been cut into the stone to allow access to the summit of the natural dome.
