Wiltshire and Swindon Historic Environment Record record that this was a possibly Neolithic stone circle on the North of the M4 at Fir Clump (SU 1629 8164) [1].

Richard Reiss has noticed a concentric ring of fallen sarsens in 1965 [2]. The stones were removed during the construction of the M4. While the stones were still there Reiss had surveyed the site and measured the circle to be 107m by 86.5m. The inner circle measured 86.5m by 73.7m.

In addition to the stone circle, a single row of stones 102m long, aligned NNW-SSE, was found around 125m to the west.
