Rock Art in West Yorkshire

Reference:
Boughey, K.S.J. and Vickerman, E.A. 2003. “Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding”. English Heritage, p. 76, which reads: "Large, fairly smooth grit rock, lying on surface of ground. Complex design worn and not easy to make out: twenty or more cups, at least three with double, and six with single rings or grooves round, other groove designs, possible cups on NE and SW vertical faces."

This rock art panel is also recorded as England's Rock Art entry for ERA-2343 Willy Hall's Wood, which includes NADRAP's notes and description, photographs, a sketch of the rock and its motifs, plus photogrammetry and media from the Ilkley Archaeology Group.

This rock art panel is located on Open Access land.

Willy Hall's Wood Stone submitted by Rich32 : This stone is referenced IAG258 in Boughey & Vickerman's 2003 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding', and 'Willy Hall's Wood' on ERA. Sadly, it suffered a graffiti attack around 2002 with red paint being daubed in the motifs. Traces of the red paint was still visible in 2017, but thankfully most had gone within motifs. Even though the motifs consist of grooves, cups and ri...
