Round Barrow(s) in Derbyshire

Two round barrows some 955 m from Five Wells Chambered Cairn at the western end of the hill. Fine views all around being the highest point in the area (434m) - slightly higher then Five Wells whose east chamber portal stones are visible on the eastern horizon.

The two barrows are well preserved with signs of excavation present in the centre of each. They are around 10m wide, 1.5 metres high and 37m apart.

The barrows are highly visible in the landscape in all directions.

Access from the left hand bridleway (the right hand goes to Five Wells) near the pub at Chelmorton - Right to Roam - straight up the hill.

There may have been a third barrow - there are significant piles of stones where a third barrow should be if aligned with the other two. Five Wells also lines up well with the alignment of the two barrows although the evcavations makes their centres difficult to identify, and their proximity increases the likelihood of error.
