Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by postman : The first barrow reached from the car park (Vote or comment on this photo)
Barrow Cemetery in Staffordshire. A Bronze Age barrow group which includes the bowl barrows preserved up to 1.2m of height. The first barrow is on the crest of the hill above, about 1 metre tall, from here we can see the biggest barrow and the built upon barrow and further on the smallest barrow with the hilltop trig point .The biggest barrow has the obligatory scooped interior and a fenced off tree.

The strangest of the group has no grass covering, instead a concrete floor from some modern construction, despite it's modern appearance it really is a bronze age barrow. Further on is the smallest barrow about 3ft tall then it's down and up a small valley to the trig point and a great view marred slightly by three big quarries.

Finding them: A small lane heads south off the A52 to the little village of Wooton, after passing Weaver farm a small car park appears on the right , a footpath goes to the trig point 371m high. This is the last Peak Hill before descending onto the Staffordshire plain (though it's outside the national park).

Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by astronomer  : The Weaver Hills form the south-westernmost limestone extension of the Peak District and southern Pennines. The views westwards to the Wrekin in Shropshire are spectacular as are the expansive vistas south and southeast towards Leicestershire and the plain of central England. Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by postman : The largest of the barrows with scooped interior and fenced off tree, why protect a sapling that can only do harm to the barrow. This picture was six years ago so it could be twice as big now. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by astronomer  : Weaver Hills SW tumulus The O.S map shows a tumulus at the extreme SW of the group of barrows on the Weaver Hills. This is probably it. Now very badly eroded it's about 3m in diameter and only c0.4m high. It straddles the collapsed fence approx 50m SW of the southern most large barrow. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by astronomer  : This image gives a good impression of the size of the southernmost of the four barrows on the Weaver Hills. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by astronomer  : I'm calling this the secondary barrow only because its slightly lower but a bit wider than the summit barrow. The O.S. map shows three barrows at the southern end of the ridge but only this one was obvious. To its E is a modern pile of earth and silage that may be covering the other two barrows in this triple cluster. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Weaver Hills
Weaver Hills submitted by astronomer  : As referred to by Postman this is the largest of the barrows on the Weaver Hills. Approx 12m diameter and about 2m high. Centre has been dug out (Bateman?). The tree has been supplemented by a stone memorial bench. Although damaged, the barrow is in a good state of preservation on largely sheep-rearing farmland.

Weaver Hills submitted by postman : The big barrow on the left and on the other side of the fence is the concreted, constructed upon barrow. Poor thing.
