Burnett's Ridge (Appletreewick)
Burnett's Ridge (Appletreewick) submitted by AndrewTawn : Showing stone 421 with view to the west (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock Art in Yorkshire (North)

Listed as Pastscape Monument No. 48485, this stone is "a millstone grit boulder indicated on the ground by Mr. S. Feather at SE08096151 has numerous cup markings and possible channels on its surface."

Further information can be found on The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) page for Burnett's Ridge (421), Appletreewick, North Yorkshire. TNA provide detailed directions to find this stone, together with a photograph, a brief 'archaeology and history' and Boughey & Vickermans plan of the cup-marks on the rock.

Historic England record a 'rock with at least 24 cup marks, many interconnected by groove marks, 345m north west of High Lathe, Burnetts Ridge, Skyreholme List Entry 1014967 with a very similar description but at grid reference SE 08107 61505, some 18 metres different from TNA's and Pastscape's. As there are a number of other cup marked rocks in this area but "much of the landscape has been damaged by industrial workings."

Note: Have you visited this site? Can you confirm the grid reference and description? Do you have a photograph or further information you can add?
