Ebolton Cave
Ebolton Cave submitted by cavegirl : The Elbolton Cave (such as it is) - beware deep hole! (Vote or comment on this photo)
The cave has a couple of names but the most common alias is Navvy Noodle Hole. It is near the top of a steep grassy slope at the foot of the scar.

Originally it was excavated in 1888-91 and then again in 1920. It was used as a burial place through the Neolithic and Bronze Age with 4 skeletons and the remains of at least 7 others and one cremation. 3 of the burials were in cists and the others spread around within the rubble on the floor. Neolithic and Early Bronze Age pottery was found and at lower levels the bones of reindeer, arctic fox, brown bear and other cold weather fauna. There is a drop of 4 metres to get into the chamber and entry is not advised as it is a water worn passage and getting out could be very difficult.
