There are two rock art panels recorded at/around this location, both called 'South Middleton Moor' by England's Rock Art. The first panel remains in situ, the second was donated to the Great North Museum:
South Middleton Moor: The first rock art panel is described by NADRAP as having a cup and ring with possible rectangular groove and an irregular depression on top of the panel. For more information see England's Rock Art entry for ERA-214 South Middleton Moor, which includes Beckensall's description, photographs, a sketch of the rock and its motifs, plus photogrammetry and media from the Beckensall Archive.
This rock art panel is located on Open Access land. Beckensall noted: "about two hundred and fifty yards (229m) north of the beginning of the moor road to Threestone Burn farmhouse, on a bracken-covered brae facing east, a single cup and ring was carved on a small isolated sandstone."
The original Beckensall record can be found at Internet Archive: Beckensall 354 South Middleton Moor.
South Middleton Moor: The second rock art panel, recorded as ERA-1898 South Middleton Moor, with a single, large, deep conical cup mark, was donated to the Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle (now the Great North Museum). The ERA record has NADRAP's notes, Beckensall's description, photographs, a sketch of the rock and its motifs, plus photogrammetry and media from the Beckensall Archive.
The original Beckensall record can be found at Internet Archive: Beckensall 918 South Middleton Moor portable. Beckensall records that this panel was donated to the Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle (now the Great North Museum).
