This Iron Age hillfort is one of the most spectacular in Northumberland. It is located on the top of a hill with great views of the area west and north (as far as Dod Law hillfort) of Wooler. The course of the stone ramparts is perfectly distinguishable, as well as the adjacent enclosure with hut platforms - it is unclear whether this is contemporary with the hillfort.

Within the ramparts there are remains of hut circles and a 17th century cairn.

The site has never been excavated, but it was surveyed in 1997 and 2000.

This is taken from the Pennine Way just below Stob Rigg, on our way back from the Stob Stones, using full zoom on my camera lens. The two walls forming the outer defences of the fort can be seen running in parallel across the middle of the photo. Oh for a warm, sunny day - I'd have lo... (Vote or comment on this photo)

If you compare the plan you include here with satellite images for the area, I think you will see it is actually for the for 'fort' next door on Harehope Hill - mislabelled by Berwick Naturalists.
