Round Barrow in Cheshire

This scheduled barrow lies close to the main road through Rainow on a small terrace to the west of Black Rock Farm, Ginclough. Located on a south-west facing slope, the tumulus is almost untouched apart from a hollow on the top and in the south-eastern section which may have resulted from an undocumented excavation.

Viewing

One of the best ways to see this barrow is to turn off the B5470 Macclesfield Road on to Smith Lane a little way north of the hamlet of Ginclough. Once you are on this lane stop (safely) and look back down the lane, over the main road to the field beyond. To the left of a dry-stone wall you will see the barrow interrupting the view across the Cheshire Plain.
