Milfield Reconstructed Henge at Maelmin Heritage Centre
Milfield Reconstructed Henge at Maelmin Heritage Centre submitted by Andy B : Part of the Burnham family trip to Northumberland, August 2002 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Timber Circle and Henge in Northumberland. Although this site is actually destroyed, there is a splendid reconstruction of Milfield North at the nearby Maelmin Heritage Centre.

If you saw the Oldest House in Britain, Meet the Ancestors special in Feb 2003, think back to the last 10 minutes, when they built a very nice reconstruction of the 10000 year old house in Milfield, Northumberland. This is at the Maelmin Heritage Centre.

We visited there in August 2002, and found it possibly one of the quietest and least known visitor attractions in the country - but extremely interesting for megaraks, with the best reconstruction of a timber henge I've ever seen. No concrete posts here.

It's a reconstruction of the Milfield North timber circle and henge, found only from crop marks, complete with totem poles and bank and ditch. There are other reconstructions too, like a funny little brushwood shelter in the woodlands. Unfortunatley the Mesolithic house wasn't there when we visited, so it must have built it last autumn sometime.

Note: Seen in Feb 2003 on Meet the Ancestors
