Three ring cairns in Lancashire

The earthworks of Hellclough are clearly visible, but there are no original stones visible at the site.

Update August 2017: Pastscape defines this site as two ring mounds and a tumulus (saucer barrow) which survive as earthworks. For more information see Pastscape Monument No. 46184. Two of the mounds (this ring barrow and another at SD 9013 3414) are both scheduled; one of the ring cairns, 200m E of Ell Clough at SD 90273409, was de-scheduled according to a 1994 note on the Pastscape record.

This site is defined as a saucer barrow, dated to the early Bronze Age, in the scheduling information for Historic England List ID 1009116 (Saucer barrow 90m east of Ell Clough).

The Journal of Antiquities also features an entry for Ell Clough Cairn Circle, Boulsworth Hill, Lancashire, which includes details of all the cairns, and also mentions the now barely visible remains of a tumulus at SD 9051 3421. The Journal asks: "the monument seems to be aligned with Broadbank Earth Circle, Walton Spire and Pendle Hill, or is this just a coincidence?"

Yes indeed it is a cairn circle, ring cairn, bowl barrow, and not a stone circle as named. The stones that are there, and there are a few, are probably not the original ones. I would say that it is nearer the town of Burnley, rather than Earby.

Not near Earby & not a stone circle - type should be cairn

The location data given for this site is incorrect, the actual reference should be SD90203412. This error appears to originate from Burl who has incorrect data for Ellclough. There is nothing at the location given above but sodden boggy moorland as I found out on my first attempts to find this circle.
