Ancient Village or Settlement in Aberdeenshire

A late Bronze Age village of twelve hut-circles marked on both OS 1:50,000 and 1:25,000. There are also some clearance carins and reportedly some rig and farrow all visible in Balbithan Wood. The eastmost one lies almost directly due South of the entrance to the Forestry Commission car park - there is a faint path.

Re: Greenlands by Anonymous on Tuesday, 12 August 2014
Recent archaeological dig has identified 28 hut circles. Two have been radiocarbon dated to 3500BP and test pits have also found evidence of Mesolithic activity, possibly dating back to the first people to occupy Scotland after the last Ice Age.

The Balbithan hut circles are subject to a five year (2011-2016) programme of archaeological research by Murray Cook of Oxford archaeology. Four have been excavated and date to c 3500 BC. If you're interested in funding out more or participating see Murray's research website.
