Barrow Cemetery in Dorset. There are actually 7 or 8 round barrows strung out in a line alongside the ridgeway.

Three are bell-barrows and one is a pond-barrow. None have been excavated, but all have been previously dug into.

Five Marys submitted by AngieLake : This hand-sewn wartime picture shows the barrows in the distance. It hangs in Chaldon Herring church, with a description (see next pic) above it. (The barrows can be seen from the front of the church, btw.) (Vote or comment on this photo)

Five Marys
Five Marys submitted by TimPrevett : Sunset about 8.35 on Friday 13th August 2004, between two of the Five Marys. My guidebook notes claims of two burials here with associated antler headware. It was a pleasing coincidence when standing upon the top of the western barrow, to be alarmed by a rustling in the adjoining field boundary, which revealed a startled stag, which then bolted the length of the barrows!

Re: Five Marys Skeletons found with Antlers on their shoulders. by AngieLake on Sunday, 10 May 2015
(User Info | Send a Message)
In his book, 'Sacred Dorset, on the Path of the Dragon' [Capall Bann, 1998], Peter Knight writes:
"On a hill overlooking Chaldon Herring, NW of Lulworth, a Bronze Age barrow covered two adult skeletons with antlers resting on their shoulders. Another barrow close by had a single skeleton laid out in an identical fashion. Clearly the antlers were considered to be a symbol of growth and re-birth and were to aid the deceased on their journey to the spirit world."

I couldn't help but think about the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance while reading this. Those antlers are kept in the church in that village - well worth a visit if you're in the Stafford-Derby area.
