I wonder why this site is referred to as Rothiebrisbane when it is clearly not Rothiebrisbane but is in fact the much bigger and better known neighbour village of Fyvie?

Perhaps because one of the 4 carved stones set in the church's east gable (no.4 - class I symbol stone bearing a horseshoe over a disc) was relocated here from Rothiebrisbane:
"A Pictish symbol stone was moved from the garden at Rothiebrisbane to the church at Fyvie. It is said to have originally come from the old country road between Rayne, NJ 69 30, and Auchterless, NJ 71 41. This Pictish symbol stone is now at St Peter's Church, Fyvie (NJ 7688 3777)." RCAHMS 1994.
