megalithicmatt visited on 1st Jan 2004 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 2 Access: 5 The site is a bit of a mess and the grim housing estate all around doesn't help. Having said that, the inscriptions are worth looking at.

Brandsbutt submitted by tyrianterror : Brandsbutt Early Pictish Symbol Stone. This face on view of the stone, taken on the 25th of April 2008, shows the Ogham 'writing', which came to Scotland circa the BC/AD time period. The stone sits at the edge of a marked area that used to have a Stone Circle now, nothing remains of it. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Class I Pictish Symbol Stone, which was found nearby broken-up to build into a dyke, and has now been restored to its position here.

As well as the incised crescent and V-rod and serpent and Z-rod symbols, this stone bears an ogham inscription. It can be transliterated IRATADDOARENS, which has been linked with Eddarrnonn, a possible rendering of St. Ethernanus. Note the scales on the serpent.

This symbol stone is recorded as Canmore ID 18894, which includes photographs, archaeological assessments and publication accounts. The Journal of Antiquities also includes an entry for the Brandsbutt Stone, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, which includes a drawing of the stone, a photograph, a description, directions for finding this site, and the story of where it was originally found and restored. The JoA also includes a list of reference sources for more information.

Brandsbutt submitted by cosmic : Brandsbutt at NJ760224 This site is confusing as it comprises a relocated Pictish Stone and the "remains"/outline of a stone circle marked out by cobbles. The whole thing is surrounded by a modern housing estate! (Vote or comment on this photo)
