Once named "Pokeswell Druid's Temple", Peter Knight, "Ancient Stones of Dorset" believes this to be the remains of a barrow, with natural Sarsen's around the site.

Whatever the real site maybe, the atmosphere on the day we visted it was magic, the early misty rain on the hill, and the stillness made it a really good place to start the days searching off.

Poxwell Cairn submitted by TimPrevett : The remains of a barrow atop a ridge, basically! Look at the ridge of any hill going west from here, and you will see examples of what this would have been! Other similar stones were in the area, either showing more barrows, or displaced from this location. There is a clear mound here, and even some kerbing left. It is a short deviation from the footpath, and we were observed for a whi...

This site is easily reached from a bridle path running east from the A353 one mile east of Osmington. There is ample parking room by the entrance to the path. The site is a cairn circle situated on Moins Down and is sometimes referred to as Moins Down Stone Circle. The circle is a retaining ring (probably an inner one as there was probably a second larger concentric ring) of the round barrow. It is comprised of over 20 stones mostly less than 2' long all now prone. The site seems to have been of considerable importance as an 1872 description also spoke of avenues of stones running from the barrow in both easterly and westerly directions.
