Class II Pictish Symbol Stone in Grampian. The top of the cross has been lost and the remaining top half has been defaced by having holes drilled through it. Below there is a hunt scene and a double disc clearly visible.

This stone which was discovered under the pulpit of the old church is now located in the inner vestry of the new (C19th) church. The church is usually locked - I just happened to pick a time when the caretaker was around. The inner vestry is illuminated by three 60watt bulbs!

Enorm: Fordoun, Aberdeenshire NO77NW 3.2; Class 2; Ogham on both left and right narrow sides, transliterated as “VUN-MSETTORBBRE---N”.

Comments:- St Palladius catholic community was founded here about 431. “PIDARNOIN” inscribed on the stone face upper left in Hiberno-Saxon Miniscule (or Early Roman). If the former this script dates to about 9th century.
