Standing Stone (Menhir) in Aberdeenshire

Historically this stone was thought to have been erected around 1617 in memory of the aarchitect of the nearby Castle Fraser.

Modern thinking has two reasons for believing that it is a genuine standing stone. Firstly it is the same rough hewn granite as the flankers of the nearby Castle Fraser RSC. Secondly that the pryamidal topping stone which does commemorate the said John Bell is different from the rough hewn stone beneath.
