TheCaptain visited on 14th Aug 2021 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 3 Afternoon wander around Tytherington village and up to and around the old hillfort / castle. Chap in his garden nearby told me he part owned the land and I could go and have a proper look if I wanted, so I did. There is a lot of broken rock in the remaining ramparts, which surprised me by their completeness (those which hadn't been lost due to the quarrying). Saw a couple of foxes and loads of rabbits.

4clydesdale7 visited on 5th Sep 2011 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 4 M5 and quarry have caused problems but this is still an attractive Camp

Mentioned by Samuel Rudder in his 'New History of Gloucestershire' (1779), G.Witts Camp No.113 and in E.J.Burrows Entrenchments and Camps of Gloucestershire (1919) this small Iron Age Promontory Fort really has suffered from the perils of the 20thC.

Its construction is univallate but about one-third of its fortifications have been lost to modern quarrying (in the SE) and more recently it was decided that it might benefit from the M5 passing about 150m to its W. There is a shallow ditch in places along the W and NW. The experts are undecided as to whether the entrance was in the NW, the SW or both.

Strangely the Romans visited but did not carry out their usual refurbishment - a Roman pavement was found in the Parish during the Victoria era. Nice setting, shame about the motorway and the quarry - there's progress for you.
