Mayshiel Stone Circle
Mayshiel Stone Circle submitted by Anne T : On the of the stone just south of the main cluster nearer the fence line. The more we looked, the more stones we spotted, making up a circle of about 3m in diameter. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Mayshiel Stone Circle
Mayshiel Stone Circle submitted by Anne T : The stone which has been moved next to the fence line near to the road. It is the same colour and size as the rest of the Mayshiel stones - was this simply field clearance, or a stone that had been relocated? (Vote or comment on this photo)

Mayshiel Stone Circle
Mayshiel Stone Circle submitted by Anne T : In the field to the west of the Maysheil stones, at approx. NT 62814 64541, this group of five large stones were laid out like a cist. Was this the Packman's Grave, but at a different location given by Canmore? On the other hand, there were a lot of other bedrock stones protruding from the turf nearby. Mayshiel Stone Circle
Mayshiel Stone Circle submitted by Anne T : Approaching the Mayshiel Stones from the gate into the field, just west of this cluster. At first view, it looked like a small cairn, but closer inspection revealed more stones largely hidden under the turf, forming a circle. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Mayshiel Stone Circle
Mayshiel Stone Circle submitted by Anne T : The Mayshiel stones from the south. At the top of the slope, there were five stones which protruded out of the grass. Looking more closely, there were some further down-slope, largely hidden by turf, but nevertheless still part of this stone setting. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Mayshiel Stone Circle
Mayshiel Stone Circle submitted by Anne T : Arriving at this site and parking next to the gate in the field opposite, where there was a huge pile of clearance stones just up the hill, the first thing I spotted on the south side of the B6355 was this enormous stone. On closer inspection, it was standing on top of some smaller boulders, and was probably from field clearance, although its proximity to the stone setting made me wonder!

I wonder if this circle exists. It may be conflated with the "stone setting" on Canmore (ID#57533) to the east (article 50518 on Megalithic Portal). The OS map is marked "Stones" in this location. Canmore gives a position of NT 62985 64658 (55.873654, -2.593126). This location agrees with the images from Anne T above, which are also included for that other site.

John Barnatt (1989) Stone Circles of Britain Part ii states that “this site comprises a stone setting with a diameter of 2.7m. Surrounding these small stones is an earthern bank and the interior of the ring is 0.15 – 0.30m below the natural level. This suggests the site has been robbed and that it is a a cairn with a kerb, rather than a true embanked stone circle.”
