Broad Stone (Dorset)
Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by hamish : This is from the other side, you can see the lay by about 100mtrs down the road. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Broadstone is to be found flat, almost buried on the verge of the A35 next to the AA layby. It was apparently laid flat to avoid accidents (ie careless drviers hitting it...)

I've been here a couple of times now, the stone in the first picture here is not the actual broadstone but one of another two stones believed to be part of a circle also including the actual broadstone.

Broad Stone (Dorset)
Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by mattimpey : I've passed it so many times I thought I should actually stop and have a look at the remains of Broad Stone Circle (& Sarsen) on the A35. And I cleaned it up only a tiny bit, which seems to be the done thing. The layby is easy to find, shortly after the Nine Stones Circle but the A35 is a deathtrap so drive carefully (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Broad Stone (Dorset)
Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by TheCaptain : Some of us mega Portal admins met up for lunch and a chat in Dorset today. And despite the apalling weather, we made the effort out of the pub to check out a few old things. Here we are at the poor old Broadstone. Poor abused thing. We tidied it up a bit, making sure it doesn't become comletely buried. (6 comments)

Broad Stone (Dorset)
Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by hamish : Behind the layby in the field is this large sarsen stone, it is surmised that this may have been part of a Stone Circle which would have included the Broad Stone.

Broad Stone (Dorset)
Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by hamish : There used to be an AA box in the layby near here, not so easy to find now, go too fast you miss it. Quite a Stone in Stuckley's time but now laid flat. I had to do a bit of clearing rubbish off the Stone. It is sad to see it like this.

Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by TimPrevett : Look anywhere in this area, and you'll see barrows... on the western horizon here are two barrows of the Poor Lot group.

Broad Stone (Dorset)
Broad Stone (Dorset) submitted by TimPrevett : The now levelled Broadstone, with rods to give a sense of its dimensions. A jest was made that it had already suffered enough without the Christianisation imposed upon it. Mind that there road...

I used my megalith sat nav app to 'find' the Broad stone. When I got really really upset at not finding it I realised I was standing on it.
