Tenants Hill enclosure
Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by TheCaptain : Kingston Russell Cairn and Enclosure, Dorset, SY578882. View to the northwest from the enclosure which is built on a little promontary just to the north of the Kingston Russell stone circle. There is also a cairn or two here in this place with a truly wonderful view. Up the valley to the right leads to the valley of the stones. To the left, westwards down the valley gets you to the sea and ... (Vote or comment on this photo)
There are a collection of earthworks on the promontory north of the Kingston Russell Stone circle, the largest of which is believed to be a Bronze Age enclosure.

The enclosure is roughly circular (38m in diameter), with an entrance on the eastern side, a 1.5m high bank and external ditch. [source]

Just to the south of the enclosure is a medieval dew pond which is confusingly labelled as a "hut circle" on the Ordnance Survey maps. It is 10m in diameter and 1m deep, with a surrounding bank about 0.5m high - of similar dimensions to a typical hut circle. An earthen bank connects the entrance of the enclosure to the dew pond.

To the southwest of the enclosure there are traces of a Bronze Age field system, as well as three strip lynchets from medieval farming on the hillslope.

Access The field containing these earthworks is "access land" and under open access rights you can wander as you like. There are no convenient nearby parking places or bus services. Walking from the Bride valley to the north (Long Bredy or Littlebredy) will require a steep climb; walking from the Bishops Road to the south is not so strenuous.

Tenants Hill enclosure
Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by adrianmcgrath : I extracted this photo as a screen shot from the 4k video. This group of trees is positioned to the West of the enclosure. From the ground it is not obvious that there is a possible enclosure within the wooded area so I was surprised to see this enclosed area when viewing the aerial video. I am convinced this is some form of settlement but it appears to be overgrown. Any ideas would be welcome. ... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by adrianmcgrath : Facing SSE from 50 metres up. Interesting patterns in the ground north of the enclosure. I did not notice this from the ground when I was at the site. The lines in the ground are straight so it would be interesting to hear any thoughts on this. Iron age tended to be circular. Maybe a more modern feature. Iron Age Drone! (1 comment)

Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by adrianmcgrath : Facing SSW. The boundary ditch can be seen around the enclosure with the dew pond to the south. The entrance to the enclosure with a raised bank is facing East. You can just about make out the Kingston Russell Stone Circle in the distance towards the top of the photo at a southerly direction. Iron Age Drone!

Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by TimPrevett : A composite of the curious enclosure on Tenants Hill. A beautiful, peaceful spot. Said to be Bronze Age, one wonders what sort of monument this may have been apart from the ambiguous term 'enclosure'. Looking NWW. Boxing day 2006.

Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by JimChampion : View northwest from immediately south of the Bronze Age enclosure on Tenants Hill. The nettles and long grass are growing in the ditch, the yellow flowers on the outer slope of the bank. The hill beyond has earthworks on its summit (grid reference SY584885), although the name of "Old Warren" suggests it might have been a warren. There are also medieval strip lynchets on the hill.

Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by JimChampion : View west-southwest from the southern edge of the Bronze Age enclosure on Tenants Hill. On the horizon on the left is the bowl barrow at grid reference SY57358810. In the centre of the photo are medieval strip lynchets (not really very visible). In the foreground the nettles (?) indicate the enclosure's outer ditch and the yellow flowers are growing on the outer slope of the bank.

Tenants Hill enclosure
Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by JimChampion : The medieval dew pond on Tenants Hill, confusing labeled as a "hut circle" on the Ordnance Survey maps. Strong afternoon sunshine is not best for bringing out these earthwork features, but there is different vegetation growing in the pond (nettles?). The bank behind the pond is the southern side of the Bronze Age enclosure. In the distance (center) is Long Barrow Hill.

Visited Boxing Day 2006. On its southern side it looks quite hengiform to me, but its northern side and situation on a promontory make me think not so.
