Borrowston Rigg stone circle is listed in Aubrey Burl's Guide to the stone circles of Britain, Ireland and Brittany. It's one of those sites that is a good excuse for a walk on some nice moorland on a day with good weather.
When you finally stumble across it in the teeth of driving drizzle you wonder why you bothered. It's pretty hard to find; your best bet is to locate the nearby and much more impressive circular stone sheepfold, then strike off north east towards the nearby wire fence. If you are lucky and the heather is not too tall you will stumble across a number of small boulders arranged in a largish circle. It's not at all visible from afar, because of the undulating nature of the local terrain (even Castlerigg would be hard to find if it was in this particular location !). It's situation is perhaps like Arbor Low in Derbyshire - an enclosing location where you feel isolated from the rest of the world. However Arbor Low has a real atmosphere, whereas this circle feels more like an arbitary expanse of moorland that happens to have a few low boulders on it. One for the "pokemonolith" folks only I'm afraid.
