Bach Camp
Bach Camp submitted by jfarrar : From north-west looking SE towards fort (Vote or comment on this photo)
Bach Camp covers some 6¼ acres with a bank, ditch and counterscarp bank to each side. On the north-west side there is a very wide ditch and an entrance. Further entrances are on the south and north ends of the camp, although the southern one is considered to be modern.

The fort sits on a ridge between an unnamed stream to the north and Whyle Brook to the east.

No dates seem available for the time of occupation.

Re: Bach Camp by Anonymous on Saturday, 16 June 2012
spent a night camping about one kilometre north of the camp on a hot july weekend, was one of the most magical, memorable times of my life as the sun set then the moon rose over the camp, could have been any summer night within the last few millenia.

From http://www.roman-britain.org/celtic/bach_camp.htm, the following is stated.

Iron-Age Hillfort. "Bach Camp, hill-fort (SO/547603) 3¼ miles ENE of Leominster (A44, A49), 1¾ miles SE of Kimbolton (B4553). Though small (area 6¼ acres), the defences of this camp are stout and elaborate. Steep slopes on all sides are augmented by a bank, ditch and counterscarp bank. Everywhere the innermost bank is very denuded. Between it and the second bank on the NW side there is a very wide, shallow ditch or scoop. There is an in-turned entrance at the S end, and others at the NW and N : of these the former may be modern. Not dated."
