This impressively situated bowl barrow lies just below the top of a hillock near Bicknell Farm, with splendid views south over Blagdon Lake to the Mendip Hills, and west to the sea.

The barrow is about 25 metres in diameter, and traces of its external ditch are still clearly visible. Excavations have obviously been made in the past here, and there is the usual hollow in the top.

The northwest side of the hillock seems to have been cut away, and is probably the remains of an old quarry. It is also known that a windmill was constructed on top of the mound in the 13th century.

Just to the southwest, on the top of the hillock, another slight mound can be made out, with some rocks visible sticking out of the ground. Was this once possibly a cairn, with some form of entrance structure from the northwest ? From this point, a linear feature which was probably once a boundary wall can clearly be seen going down the hill to the south east, and there are a few reasonably large stones still sticking out of the ground marking its position. This structure is aligned directly to the Fairy Toot barrow, and to this day still makes a part of a county boundary.

An excavation was carried out here in 1946, and many remains of iron age occupation were found around the hilltop.

Can this be called a Bell Barrow as well as a Round Barrow?
