The Chesters submitted by uisdean
The Chesters Hillfort in East Lothian. The Chesters is described on the adjacent Historic Scotland noticeboard as ‘a well preserved prehistoric hillfort dating to the period immediately before and during the Roman occupation, 2000 years ago’. It is surrounded by a series of ramparts and ditches, the highest of which are up to 15 feet in height; the interior contains traces of circular stone foundations.

The siting of the fort is curious; it is overlooked by a hill to the south from which missiles could be launched into the site. Historic Scotland suggest that perhaps the fort was designed more for prestige than defence.
