Upper Manbean Pictish Stone is Unique for its' strange creature portrayed, marginally reminiscent of the Hippocampi of Rodney's/Rotteny's Stone, by Brodie. The head is distinctly wolf like, rather reminiscent of the Ardross wolf, currently held at Inverness Museum. The body is broad, and with a spatulated Salmon like tail.

Beneath the fish lies a feminine symbol, a double edged comb, adjacent to a mirror.

Old graffiti at the top of the stone is barely legible, as are the depictions themselves. The stone has no cover, no protection from the elements, and as such, standing in a farmers field, it is slowly being etched away by time and acidic rain.

I firmly believe that such treasures urgently need better protection. It seems that with Pictish art, any animalistic or pagan idolatery is left to rot away, which is often the case with early classI pictish stones, and that later cII or cIII stones -with early christian symbols somehow get uplifted, put into museums, brought into churches for greater protection!!
