Stone Row / Alignment in Powys

There are six small and medium sized stones making up the Cefn Moel Stone Row, which has a total length of 64 metres. Sited within the Brecon Beacons National Park (now in Powys but formerly in the old country of Brecknockshire) this stone row sits at an altitude of 381 metres and an associated round cairn.

The Archwilio record states that this is Bronze Age Stone row with "a short alignment of 6 stones running north-south. All the stones touch each one another at 40m and 20m from either end are two isolated uprights". They add further detail: (the) "N-S row of five stones, 3.8m long, lying c. 6m SE of cairn PRN 12368. The area to the W between stones and cairn appears to form a raised platform with the stones as a revetment/kerb."

"From S the stones are:
1 recumbent c. 45 x 30cm
2 edge-set c. 70cm long
3 edge-set 35 x 20 x 15cm
4 edge-set 50 x 15 x 35cm
5 40cm long
Standing stone PRN 39659 is c. 50m to N and 40m to S is another PRN 39661, roughly in-line."

The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales describes this stone row and associated round cairn as "lying within 1km of the Ffynnon Las ritual complex and several other Bronze Age round cairns. It therefore constitutes one element in a wider funerary and ritual landscape." See the Coflein record which gives mainly details of the associated round cairn which sits at grid reference SO15932422.
