Cefnllys Castle
Cefnllys Castle submitted by Bladup : Cefnllys Castle. The site of the southern castle. (Vote or comment on this photo)
There is a complex hillfort at Cefnllys covering an area approximately 356m by 102m set upon a ridge in a loop of the River Irfon.

There are also the ruins of a medieval town (with prison) and two separate castles.

The castle to the north-east was destroyed by 1262 and was replaced by the one to the south. This was started in 1267 and was ruinous by the late sixteenth century. Other rectilinear banks and enclosures, some of which overlie elements of the hillfort and castle complex are probably a more recent farmstead.
