This uncertain stone has been moved since the photos were taken; it's now situated just to the north.

Thank you for informing us of the stone you identified east of Newbridge on Wye, apologies for taking some time to get back to you. From the photographs you have supplied it does indeed look like a glacial erratic and could possibly be a standing stone. It does however seem as though the stone has been moved to this position quite recently, particularly in view of the flat improved grassland around and seemingly underneath the stone. As a result the field name to the east of this site is not definitely related to the stone, particularly in light of no stone being identified in the area in 1913. Place name evidence is always tentative at best, but again it cannot be totally ruled out that these two are related. It is still however important to record such finds and we will be happy to add this site to our Historic Environment Record for future reference.

Many thanks,
Charlotte
