Gaich Wood Cairn 2
Gaich Wood Cairn 2 submitted by PeteCrane5 : Hard to believe this large cairn was thought to have been destroyed by planting and only rediscovered in 2006. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cairn in Highlands

A damp and slightly overgrown walk on tracks and gaps in the canopy of this mature plantation leads to this large cairn.

Like the Chambered Cairn SW of here this cairn has also not been destroyed by the planting of trees as previously thought. Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope, the cairn measures 19m from NW to SE by 14m transversely over a mound of rubble up to 1m in height on the NE. Several hollows in the surface of the mound appear to be the result of robbing, some of it comparatively recent.
