Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by TimPrevett : The western chamber looking north; understand that these nettles had also been trampled down to give some visibility of the stones! (Vote or comment on this photo)
Chambered Cairn in Denbighshire (Sir Ddinbych)

Remains of a substantial chambered cairn, some 80 feet long, 35 feet wide and up to 2 to 3 feet tall. Plenty of small cairn stones remain embanking two chambers.

Access is through a gate immediately to the north; we went to request permission to visit from the nearest property, Ysgubor Newydd. No one was around, but on entering the field, felt that the farm higher to the east could well have been the one to seek permission from.

The walls on the west side Ysgubor Newydd, around the corner, make for interesting viewing. One can not help feel a high degree of certainty that the stones capping the walls must be cairn material. They are heavily weathered - several inches deep - meaning millenia, not centuries of erosion. There is one spectacular crystaline lump on the wall too.

Parking is tight. Space for one vehicle only parked as near as possible into the hedge, with great consideration.

Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by Postman : Despite it's ruination the farmer respects the chambers personal space. (4 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Tyddyn Bleiddyn
Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by Postman : Bruised and battered but still hanging on. A little less foliage shows the whats left of the chamber well. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tyddyn Bleiddyn
Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by TimPrevett : Notice the contrast of the top stones to most of the wall of the property adjoining the location of the chambered cairn. The grooves seen here are inches deep, and seem very likely to have been taken from the cairn at some point. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tyddyn Bleiddyn
Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by TimPrevett : Observe the crystals, and the knotted, gnarled texture of the stones topping the wall. Surely this is "borrowed" cairn material? (Vote or comment on this photo)

Tyddyn Bleiddyn
Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by TimPrevett : The chambered cairn looking west, from the eastern end, with some of the eastern chamber stones just visible. The nettles define the area of the central cairn. (Vote or comment on this photo)

OS grid ref (Coflein) SJ00727246 [grid ref updated, thank you]
Coflein "The remains of a riffled chambered cairn, an oval stony mound, 26m by 12m and 0.8m high. Excavation, in 1869 and 1871, revealed two cists, or chambers, approached by passages, both containing many crouched inhumations."
