Standing Stone and Stone Row

This is a good, shapely and large stone maybe three metres long and one metre high, it is perfect except in it's horizontally. But even a fallen standing stone affords us the view of the end that should be in the ground. Even though its part of a small complex of sites, I would come and had a look even if were on it's own.

Some good map reading required here to navigate through the maze of tracks that lead to the turbines entry points.

Update October 2019: This row is recorded on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Carreg Clwyd, which includes a description, photographs of the alignment and the individual stones (including the recumbent monolith recorded by Postman), a plan of the row from a recent survey in August 2018, access information and links to other online resources for more information.

The recumbent stone and alignment are also recorded as Coflein NPRN 304901 (Careg Llwyd, Carno) and scheduled as CADW MG291 (Carreg Lwyd Ritual Complex)

The SRoGB also includes a link to the Excavation Report: Carno Windfarm, Trannon Moor (May 2000), and also illustrates the location of the row in the landscape, with views of cairns visible on the skyline from the row.

Careg Lwyd submitted by SandyG : View from above and south (Scale 1m). The large stone in the foreground may be a natural rock which was fully exposed by the row builders. Originally it may have only been protruding a little from the ground and as part of the design the soil around was removed to create a dramatic end to the row.
