The hillfort is just left of centre here, with wooded slopes. That must be Copenhagen farmhouse just below it in the fertile Exe valley. 7.1.16.

Cadbury Castle (Devon) submitted by AngieLake : This was the shelter someone had started to build under the banks to the north of the hillfort. Obviously fell in love with the great views too! (Probably gone to hunt and skin a large animal to cover it with?) ;-)

Beautiful location - I wouldn't say that the trees obscure the view of the ramparts too badly at all! I was the only person there for nearly a whole day. Very quiet, peaceful and there stunning views all around. I love a place that has atmosphere such as this - a great place to sit while immersed in your thoughts.

Totally agree with you WBond, after visiting on 28th December, luckily with only one other couple arriving after my cousin and I did.
Next time, hopefully alone, on a sunny day to see the views more clearly. The old gnarled and twisty trees just add to the mystical ambience of the site, don't they? I can't wait to return.
(Uley Bury got me a bit like that in September.)

I did notice someone had tried to build a shelter under the outer banks to the north. A construction of branches like a small pitched-roof tent, with stupendous views. (Be a mite wet in there at the moment!)

Re: Cadbury Castle (Devon) by Anonymous on Thursday, 01 May 2014
I have just written a book based on this iron age fort. It is a rewriting of a legend which even explains the gully round the southern inner pert of the fort. If you know this location the book should be interesting. the name of the book, assuming I get it published, will be 'Bill Marlin, Computer Wizard'. Don't worry, the content is as factual as I can make it.

Mike Ledwidge. (The other one).
