Hillfort in South Glamorgan

A grass covered enclosure with no visible remains of internal habitation.

The fort, at 60m OD, occupies the angle between a cliff to the SW and a steep-sided valley to the N about 1.5km SE of Dunraven. There has been considerable erosion on the SW so that the enclosure is now triangular, measuring 60m in depth from NW apex to the bank which defends it on the SE from the level ground beyond. The present area is about 0.3ha but was probably at least 1ha originally. The rampart has an external ditch and traces of a counterscarp bank. It is about 100m long overall, in two curving sections, with a gap near the middle. The NE section with a width of 16.5m and height of 2m overall, is aligned forward of the SW section, which measures 15.5m wide by 3m high overall. The oblique entrance thus formed is 14m wide. In the angle between the northern stretch of rampart and the edge of the cwm, a slight bank, 2m wide by 0.1m high forms a roughly rectangular enclosure with slightly rounded ends.
Coastal erosion means this has fallen into the sea in places.
