Y Pigwn cairn 1 submitted by cerrig : cairn 1, looking north. The quarried banks of Y Pigwn Roman camp can be seen behind. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Y pigwn cairn 1 is a robbed ruined cairn of small size, with a central cist visible . It is sited on the S/E edge of a Roman camp at Mynydd Bach Trecastle.

Within a few hundred meters to the South East are 2 circles, a stone row, and another robbed cairn.
When these cairns were opened by antiquarian archaeologists funerial objects were found.

The Coflein nprn number is 304656.

Y Pigwn cairn 1
Y Pigwn cairn 1 submitted by cerrig : Sem and Caroline at the cairn, with the quarried southern banks of the Roman fort behind them. Caroline is dowsing a spiral here, following her rods around in an anti clockwise spin. this lead her to the flat stone behind her, and it became a very tight coil over the stone. The week before this stone was the site of a flying ant swarm taking off. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Y Pigwn cairn 1 submitted by Postman : I like to think the flat looking stone on the left is the cist cap stone. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Y Pigwn cairn 1
Y Pigwn cairn 1 submitted by SandyG : This hollow containing a couple of large stones and a bank on the downslope side has been identified as a cairn. Given the proximity of this features to an extensive area of quarrying the possibility of this earthwork being a prospecting pit cannot be entirely discounted. View from north east (5th July 2014). Y Pigwn cairn 1
Y Pigwn cairn 1 submitted by cerrig : cairn 1, looking south. The visible stones in the cist appear to point directly at cairn 2, just visible on the middle distance skyline.

Y Pigwn cairn 1
Y Pigwn cairn 1 submitted by cerrig : Caroline at the cairn itself. She had followed her rods to here from the nearby circles, via the flat stone in previous photo. Her rods were just spinning on their own here. We are thinking of making some rods of a more " helicopter blade" design now. Then we can strap a camera to her and take aerial photo's at the same time. (1 comment)
