An Tobar
An Tobar submitted by KiwiBetsy : An Tobar is a stone lined well at the base of a slope. The structure is surmounted by quartz rocks and is well protected by stinging nettles and midges. A stone cup, pins and assorted coins were found in the well but there seems to be a lack of any other information about it. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well in Perth and Kinross. To find this well, follow the A827 through Kenmore heading for Killin.

Where the road turns sharply left along Loch Tay, instead turn right onto a minor road. After about one mile, with Drummond Cottage on the left, turn into a track on the right and either walk or drive a short distance to a gate. A few paces before the gate a ‘dog walkers’ track on the left heads downhill. Just as it levels out and before the fence, there is an indistinct path to the left …. the well is about 22 paces along that track on your left.

An Tobar
An Tobar submitted by childrenofthestones : The white quartz stones around the well resembling a set of perfectly polished teeth. No wonder the sacred water has a reputation for curing toothache. July 2023. (Vote or comment on this photo)

An Tobar
An Tobar submitted by childrenofthestones : Somewhat surprised to find the well half submerged. Then I noticed the fallen (or should I say gnawed) trees. Beavers have dammed the sacred waters. An additional reason to visit in my opinion - just remember to wear your wellies. July 2023. (Vote or comment on this photo)

An Tobar
An Tobar submitted by rogerkread : This needs a little perseverance to find, but KiwiBetsy's directions are spot on. Although it appears to be little visited now, locals in an Aberfeldy pub seemed to know it and to be proud of it. They seemed sure it had been a monastic site in the past, with a chapel nearby. An Tobar
An Tobar submitted by rogerkread : No this isn't the actual well - the well head is close by however, and this pool is presumably associated with it. (Vote or comment on this photo)

An Tobar
An Tobar submitted by KiwiBetsy : An Tobar still produces clear water.
