Cefn Glas Round Cairn
Cefn Glas Round Cairn submitted by TAlanJones : View to the west(ish) across the cairn site with Moel Siabod (mountain) in the distance. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Situated along an ancient track that leads from Capel Curig to Betws y Coed the cairn lies to the north of the track on a low promontory following a stile crossing of a boundary fence. There are commanding views towards the mountains to the west and south, and although the site overlooks the lowlands to the north and east, these are hidden due to the rise of the ground. What remains of this robbed cairn is an apparent crescent rim of earth fast stone that arcs north to south.

This outer rim is raised to about 0.4m and the cairn's diameter is approximately 15m N-S. A very prominent sheep fold has been erected on the western side presumably from stones robbed from the cairn. The sheep fold is about 10m long by 6m at it northern widest end. The interior of the sheepfold and the inner area between fold and rim have stones underfoot but not to any great degree.

The track itself is thought to have been used by the Romans in the first century but not created by them. I visited in January after a smattering of snow that had obscured some features. However I have provided a fantastic, not to mention talented hand drawn diagram as an illustration of the site 🤓
