Also hadn't noticed the graffiti from 1872, possibly with initials and a date. Didn't notice the initial and possible date until reviewing the photos - hence near-duplicates. Maen Crwn submitted by AngieLake : A side view of Maen Crwn, looking at its north/south alignment. Here the tip aligns with a dip in the hillside to north, and its shoulder slopes sharply away to the west. Re-checking the photo of the stone's western side, I wondered if this 'slope' was natural, or man-made for some reason.

Maen Crwn submitted by AngieLake : Maen Crwn sitting in its field. As you walk along an avenue of pine trees beside a cottage on the way back to the Jubilee Pillars from the Druids Circle, you will see this view to the right of the pathway (looking approx NE).

Maen Crwn
Maen Crwn submitted by LivingRocks : This large standing stone is the easiest feature to locate when looking for Red Fam Circle,it stands close to the path in the field next to the circle.

has anyone else noticed that the notch on the top of Maen Crwn lines up with Maen Amor on top of the ridge opposite?

Guided walk around ancient sites North Wales 15 May 2010

The RCAHMW - Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales - has details on its website of a great opportunity to visit some of the ancient sites in the northern Carneddau, centred on the hills above Penmaenmawr

RCAHMW say that the walk will be a tour around both new discoveries and some better-known sites. They think it will appeal to all those who enjoy mountain scenery and are interested in looking at ancient sites and wish to know more about them.

The precise route and distance of the walk will depend on the size of the group but it will be around 8 miles and of moderate intensity.

At present the RCAHMW are trying to gauge the level of interest - it sounds exactly the sort of thing Portal members would love to support!

Contact details are on the RCAHMW site

(put on this page as it's the closest ancient site to Penmaenmawr railway station - AB)
