A short horned cairn in Sutherland of Orkney-Cromarty type, with a polygonal chamber. It now reaches a maximum height of only 5ft behind the chamber.

Excavated by Curle in 1909. Before excavation the cairn had been somewhat disturbed but still stood 8ft high. It has been further robbed, especially on the N side. More at Scotland's Places

Note: Chambered cairns in the woods walk coming up on October 8th 2014. The Woodland Trust Scotland will be visiting several cairns that we barely have any details of if anyone is free and in the area. A final event for Scottish Archaeology Month.

Chambered cairns in the woods
Wednesday, October 8, 2014 - 10:30 to 15:30

A visit to several chambered cairns in the woods and also look at the way the area has changed from natural wildwood to one used and managed by man.

Bring packed lunch. Walking over rough, boggy ground in parts. Reasonable level of fitness required. Wear stout boots and bring waterproofs. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Torroy car park. From the A949 in Spinningdale, turn onto the minor road sign posted to Migdale. Parking is 0.6 miles on the right (IV24 3AD).
