Holne Ridge North submitted by Anne T : The Holne Ridge North cist, submitted on behalf of Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A cist within a cairn cemetery in Devon

Information about the first, the Holne Ridge North Cist, which is north west of Holne Ridge Stone Row, comes from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website. Their notes tell us: "(this is) a probable but unusual cist is on steep well drained, NW facing slope. It utilizes the south east side of a massive slab, 1.6m long, 0.4m thick and 0.7m high, with smaller slabs 0.6m to 0.9m long and 0.2m thick, which barely project above ground level".

The PDW web page gives links to further information on Pastscape, Monument Number 443179, which adds that the site sits 365 metres above OD (sea level) ... a possible coverstone has fallen into the cist."

This monument is also recorded as MDV12997 (Cairn forming part of a cairn cemetery on Holne Ridge) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER. The cairn and cist are scheduled as part of Historic England List ID 1019273 (Eight cairns forming part of a cairn cemetery on Holne Ridge and a stone alignment immediately west of Horn's Cross).
