Information about this cairn, which lies just to the west of the main stone row, comes from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entries for the Stalldown Encircled Cairn and the Stalldown Stone Row [Photo Set 2].

This cairn is also recorded as part of Pastscape Monument No. 442208, which records two Bronze Age cairns which lie "either side of a stone alignment", and as MDC4298 (Cairn to the west of Stalldown Stone Row, Cornwood) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER.

For more information about the row, and a plan of the alignment with all its associated cairns, see the Stone Rows of Great Britain's entry for Stalldown .

There is a cluster of cairns in or near the Northern third of Stalldown Stone Row. Stalldown Cairn Circle (see Nearby sites listing below) is constructed a few yards to the E of the Stalldown Stone Row axis, a hiatus in the row of standing stones. Around 100 yards NNW in open moorland there is a small grass cairn, Stalldown Encircled Cairn, measuring c. 30 feet across with a 4 feet earth bank. An intermittent perimeter of kerb stones c. 1.5 feet high defines the edge of the cairn. There is a shallow hollow in the centre of the cairn suggestive of an excavation. It lies c. 30 yards E of Stalldown Stone Row. OS mapping locates the centre of the cairn at SX6321362506
A third cairn, Stalldown Stone Row Cairn NE lies c. 100 yards SE from here, on the E side of the stone row.
The concentration of several sites in a small radius suggests that it was the centre of ritual activities at Stalldown. The inclusion of Stalldown cairn circle into the stone row perhaps indicates that it was the focal point.
Historic England 1015806 includes the three cairns in the N of Stalldown Stone Row in the scheduled area.
