The stone is situated on the south slope of a small mound but there are higher mounds around, including the one on which the farm buildings stand.
The stone itself is some 3ft 6in high with a big circular hollow on the top. The NW face supposedly has a human figure carved on it but I found the East side more interesting - see photo.
RCAHMS name this as Knockraich after the farm of the same name. It is easily reached from the farm building which also includes a cafe and a curtain shop (diversification!).
For more information see Canmore ID 45305 which confirms: "This stone stands about 1m high and bears a human figure of unknown date, two cup-marks and a number of natural markings."
Hutchison's original entry from 1894 records on the North West face of the stone: "A human figure, in pocked technique, is about 1ft above ground on this same face and measures 8in high by 7 1/2in wide. The figure lacks characteristics which might date it but Hutchison said that some markings gave evidence of recent sculpture; two similar figures on the Bruce Aisle Airth Church are later than 1614."
The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) also features a page for this site - see their entry for Knockraich, Fintry, Stirlingshire which gives directions for finding this stone, together with photographs, a brief archaeology & history and local folklore. TNA adds: "Whether the position of the water-worn smooth rock found in the bowl on top of this standing stone has any ancient tradition, records seem silent on the matter."
