nddavies visited on 22nd Apr 2011 - their rating: Cond: 2 Access: 4 Three stones and the central mound remain in a pasture field. The stones have all fallen. Drainage seems poor - it was a bone dry day but the reeds hint at soggy ground. Access from the northwest may be problematic. The stile out from the field looked overgrown. Access is easy from the 4-way junction of paths just southeast. Approach this junction from the good paths west or southeast. Re: Y Naw Carreg by Anonymous on Tuesday, 17 July 2012
hi tried to find this circle on saturday and rather we went round in circles and never actually found it! think this was in part due to the shoulder high grass and it was very boggy underfoot. when we did get back to the car with 2 very muddy dogs my daughter realized she had lost the car keys, so i waited by the car with the dogs wondering what her chances were of findind them as we had re traced our steps several times! luckily she found them about a field away, but we never did find the stone circle.

There's an image here showing a barn nearby, taken in 2011 if that's any help? http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2377857
and the centre of the circle http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2377858
From those, I'd reckon it's not easily visible until you're able to discern the small mound in the centre, you may have been almost on top of it and not realised. Well done for finding the car-keys! If you do return, some photos would be very much appreciated :-)

It is in a European development zone.

Plenty of stone circles have been restored form states worse than this one. The ambiance here is quite beautiful.

I went there this week. The three stones are still there. The central area with ditch is still intact. It is beautiful place. I haven't met a local that knows it exists. The coflien record says about some of the other stones are 99 yards or metres grid west of the circle. The record is from nearly centery ago.

This circle is not completely destroyed. There are 3 stones still standing, around a central cairn with a ditch around it, maybe 4 ft across with the ditch about a foot wide and deep. The stones are quite clearly visible, although two may be fallen. It has a great location, with good views round from east to west.

The title suggests that there should be 9 stones, what happened to the others do you think?
Do you have a picture of the site that you could post here?

I live just 1/2 a mile from this site and have visited it many time while walking my dog. It is extreamly difficult to find in the summer, due to long grass and the condition of the site.

It must have been a very tranquile place a 100 years ago!

It is near a public footpath and still a lonely place. Shame that it was allowed to fall into such disrepair.

Does anone know of any old photos?

Hi, I grew up just a couple of fields away from this site, in the 1970's. As far as I can recall, the stones were mostly still standing and in the form of a recognisable circle. However, there has been much development in the area since, including the building of a lorry depot and other buildings. I left the area in the early 80's, before the development took place, and have no idea whether the site is still accessible, or if the site was destroyed during the construction work. Sadly, I was the only person in the village to recognise this was a site of archaeological interest, even though I was still in my teens when I left. If you would like exact details of where the circle is/was, please email: catladystar@hotmail.com.
