Lagganmullan 3 submitted by markj99 : The Rock Art panel of Lagganmullan 3. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A boulder with with cup and ring markings on its south-east face. The upper surface of bears five cups with single rings, measuring up to 200m across, and at least seven cups up to 80mm across and 100m deep

Source: Canmore ID 83776.

I was able to see two cup marks on the right edge of the panel but I couldn’t spot any of the 5 Cup and Ring Markings. There is a skill in finding Rock Art and taking photographs which show the Rock Art clearly. Superior pictures of Lagganmullan 3 , showing more of the Cup and Ring Markings are available at BRAC/Dumfries and Galloway/Lagganmullan-Anwoth . I would like to acknowledge the late Jan Brouwer, co-founder of the British Rock Art Collection . It contains 18000 pictures from 1200 Rock Art sites the length and breadth of Britain.

I have adopted the nomenclature of E. & M. van Hoek in naming the site Lagganmullan 3. This is part practicality and part tribute to their dedicated pursuit of Rock Art in Dumfries and Galloway. 'Lagganmullan and Upper Newton (Anwoth parish): rock carvings', Discovery Excavation Scotland, 1994. Page(s): 13-14 van Hoek and van Hoek, E and M. may be used as a reference for all of the Rock Art at Lagganmullan.
