Hillfort in Gwynedd
The Hill fort is situated on the summit of Moel Y Gest. Moel Y Gest is a 263m rocky ridge that towers above Porthmadog. It has a prominence in the environment because of the lower land that surrounds it.
According to Coflein the Hill fort is a complex stone walled enclosure, set on a brocken, craggy summit.
The Hill fort is at the west end of Moel Y Gest. It has two inner enclosures. The outer enclosure is defended by a stone bank which is absent on the south side where the site is naturally defended. The inner enclosure is around the summit and measures 25m west to east and 16m north to south.
The views from the Hill fort are extensive and include the Llyn Peninsula, Snowdon, Moel Hebog, the Moelwynion and Rhinogydd mountains.
