With its fabulous views of Snowdonia and the valley over Nantlle towards Caerarfon Bay, Mynydd Mawr will always have been a special place.

The cairn on its summit no longer has the scale it must previously enjoyed, but it is still magnificent.

COFLEIN (NPRN 302554) describes the site as a Bronze Age Cairn, in the following terms:
"A large sub-circular summit cairn that measures 22m in diameter by up to 2.5m high. It is constructed of small-medium angular scree stones piled together. There has been later delviing to form three drystone shelters which are built into it. Each of the shelters measure up to 3m in diameter by 1m high."

Mynydd Mawr Cairn
Mynydd Mawr Cairn submitted by pab : Mynydd Mawr Cairn. This was a very special place - one of those where (as someone once almost described it?) the veil between this world/time and another seems very thin! I think my sedentary 5ft marker (aka Mrs PAB!) could have watched and wondered all day, as generations before us will have done. On a more prosaic note: as this image shows, the spread of stone and scree around the...
