Isle Head
Isle Head submitted by h_fenton : Isle Head (Isle of Whithorn) Promontory Fort viewed from the north. Kite Aerial Photograph 16 September 2010 @ 3pm (Vote or comment on this photo)
A fort situated on the low lying promontory at the southern end of the Isle of Whithorn. On the landward side (north) the fort is protected by three ramparts and two ditches, to the west the inner defences continue around the side then across the seaward side of the fort, to the east the fort is protected by small cliffs.

Internally the fort measures about 70m x 40m, There are a few slight indications of walling in the interior of the fort including a possible roundhouse c.6metres diameter.

For more information see Canmore ID 63098.
