Cairn in Perth and Kinross

This cairn is recorded as Canmore ID 23899, which gives brief information, including: "Near Invermearan, is Macree's Cairn, in Glen Mearan, where one of Colin Campbell's dairymaids was slain in a skirmish between cattle raiders and their pursuers (context infers late 16th c). (1928 entry) .... A cairn of modern appearance at NN 396 437. It is 1.5m in diameter and 0.8m high. The local traditions associating it with the events described above are still strong (1963 entry)."

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) also feature a page for this remote cairn - see their entry for MacRee’s Cairn, Glen Meurain, Fortingall, Perthshire, which has directions for finding this site, photographs, a brief archaeology & history and local folklore. TNA add it would be worth avoiding the place in summer months (presumably because of the midges!).
